Who are we?
Humbercrest Nursery School is a non-profit, co-operative nursery school conveniently located within Runnymede C.I. in Toronto’s Bloor West Village and Baby Point neighbourhoods. Runnymede C.I. also houses Mountview Alternative Public School and has 2 beautiful new playgrounds. We also have exclusive access to a completely contained outdoor courtyard for the children to explore.

We have programs for children ages 2 ½ to 4 years old that run with the following class schedules:

2 mornings (Tuesday & Thursday) 9am-11:30am

3 mornings (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) 9am-11:30am

3 afternoons (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) 12:30pm-3pm

Or any combination of these programs listed above!

Our program offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where children learn through play, the arts, and each other.

What is a Co-Op?
As part of the Humbercrest Nursery School co-op, families actively participate in all aspects of the program including:

  • 2 general meetings per year – *Virtual during Covid
  • Duty days – *Not during Covid
  • Toy wash a few times per year – *Not during Covid (executive committee members are exempt)
  • One committee position (Scholastic, Liason, Newsletter etc.) or an executive committee position
  • Fundraisers and Community Events

What programs are offered?
We offer a 2-day morning program, 3-day morning program, or enrollment in both for a full 5 mornings a week. We also have a 3-day afternoon program. The school is open from September to June. We follow the TDSB school year calendar and are closed for statutory holidays, and seasonal holidays.

When are the PA Days & Holidays (closures)?
PA Days for 2022-2023 school year have not been posted. We will post dates once the TDSB has updated their new calendar for 2022/2023 as our schedule coincides with theirs.

What are registration timelines? How can I register my child?
Children that are currently in the program and will not be entering JK the following September will be given priority registration. All other children including siblings of alumni must be on the waiting list to be offered a spot in the program. Pre-registration for returning families will begin in December and registration for new families will begin in January.

What are the Fees?
A $75 non-refundable, registration fee applies to families that are new to the Co-op.

Other fees include:

  • 2-day program: $175 per month
  • 3-day program: $210 per month
  • Fundraising Fee: $50 per year
  • Police Reference Checks are $20 and must be completed by anyone doing duty days

What is the teacher/child ratio per class?
There are maximum 14 children per class. The classroom teacher and a teacher’s assistant are present at all times.

What is a duty day?
*NOTE- There are no Parental duty days during Covid-19 

Families in the 2-day program typically have one duty day per month and in the 3-day program two duty days per month. The snack duty parent will bring a healthy nut-free snack for all the children. Other duties include playing and interacting with the children, assisting them with any activities planned by the teacher and cleaning up.

Can my caregiver or another family member do duty days for me?
*NOTE- There are no Parental duty days during Covid-19
Yes. However, anyone doing duty days must have submitted a completed medical form and Police Reference Check.

Are there any medical forms that I need to submit before my child begins the program?
Yes. Immunizations are mandatory and you must submit a copy of your child’s immunization record. In addition, a medical form including tuberculin test (TB) results, and an up-to-date immunization record must be completed and signed by a physician for all adults participating in duty days.

Can I bring other children with me on my duty day?
No. Unfortunately, duty persons cannot bring children not enrolled in the program.

My child will not be 2 ½ years old until November. Can he/she still begin the program in September?
We can accept two children per class under the age of 2 ½ as long as he/she are 30 months by December of the year they start. Please contact the registrar for availability. 

Does my child have to be toilet trained?
No. Families will need to provide diapers and wipes if their child is not toilet trained. We will work with your child to develop their toileting skills if you are in the process of training.

How do I place my child on the waiting list?
If you are considering sending your child to Humbercrest Nursery School we recommend you put your child on the waiting list immediately. Spots fill up quickly, particularly in our morning program.   • Your child’s name
  • Your child’s date of birth
  • 2 day or 3 day class preference
  • Desired start date

Do I need to give a deposit to put my child on the waiting list?
No. There is no deposit required to put your child on the waiting list.
